Cornwall Community Improv

What is Cornwall Community Improv?

Cornwall Community Improv is a community group who meet regularly to practice group musical improvisation.

The type of improvisation that we use is free improvisation. This type of improvisation doesn't use any written music, which means there are no right or wrong notes, rhythms or musical expressions.

Improvisations can be unconfined, using the whole group for an indefinite amount of time (or until the session ends), or use a semi-structured approach such as the use of prompts or gentle confinements such as 'only a certain number of players may play at one time' etc.

Sessions are open to all abilitie, instruments and voices. Attendees must be at least 16 years of age.

You do not need to have experience of improvising and the groups are accessible to all levels. For your first visit we recommend you bring an instrument/voice that you would identify as your primary mode of expression. Please bring what you need to play, including any electrical equipment or stands.

A small selection of instruments, including a keyboard will be available during the sessions and we encourage attendees to explore these, as well as their own instruments.
